What "tested" means here
Most used-equipment listings say tested and leave you guessing. Here is the exact bench procedure, and the exact limits of it. Right now, bench testing covers servo motors and spindle motors only — PLC, I/O, filters, and other panel hardware are sold untested, as pulled from the panel.
Servo motors (1FT6 / 1FK6)
- Insulation resistance, winding to frame, at 500V
- Winding resistance balanced across all three phases
- Back-EMF verified — shaft driven, balanced voltage across phases
- Holding brake releases under 24VDC and clamps when de-energized
- Bearings hand-checked — smooth, no roughness or noise
Spindle motors (1PH7)
- Insulation resistance, winding to frame
- Winding resistance balanced across all three phases
- KTY84 temperature sensor reads correct resistance
- Bearings hand-checked — smooth, no roughness or noise
- Back-EMF does not apply to an induction rotor, so we don't claim it
Nothing here has been run closed-loop under a matched drive — that takes a drive and a controller we don't bench. Encoder output and rotor condition on spindle motors are not verified for the same reason. Video of a specific unit running is available on request. PLC, I/O, filters and other panel hardware are not part of our bench test protocol at this time — every part in those categories is sold untested, exactly as pulled from the panel it came from.
About
Hockenbery Servos is a one-man operation in Overland Park, Kansas, run out of Hockenbery Holding LLC. Before this, I spent about ten years managing, installing and servicing industrial servo and drive systems in production and packaging facilities — which is where the parts come from and why I can answer a real question about them.
When a facility shuts a line down, the drive hardware usually goes to scrap with hundreds of service hours left in it. We buy those clearances, clean each unit properly, bench test what can be bench tested, and sell it to the maintenance people still keeping the same equipment alive. Prices are low because overhead is low — a garage, a bench, and no sales floor.
If you're maintaining legacy Siemens gear and need something that isn't listed, ask. A lot of inventory hasn't been photographed yet, and more comes in with every job.
